Rice transplant

Behind of my clinic is rice paddy field.
The rice seedlings are done by automatic transplanter machine, which
introduced in 1970'~80' in Japan.

The rice harvesting machine also relief the manual works. But, the rice
production in Japan is inefficient, since the average land area of one farmer
own less than 1.0 hectare. After WWII, US occupation forces performed
the radical land reform in Japan. As a result, the large land owner had
disappeared and spitted the land into small piece one.

We pay the highest price for the Japanese rice.

Now it is a time to change.

Potato

 Today,  I harvest the Potatoes in my house.  The sunlight of this place

 is not so good. The sizes of potateos are so small due to growth failure.

   The variety name of this potato---- sorry, I forgot.  The center one is 

   Zippo lighter for comparison.

Thrush: Oral candida

Thrush (oral candidiasis) is a condition which an overgrowth of a yeast in 

a baby's mouth. This yeast (candida albicans) normally lives in human skin. 

mouth, intestines. It thrives in moist, warm environments. 

Treatment:  1） 0.2%  methylrosaniline chloride(gentian violet B.

                   2)    0.02% miconazole oral gel

(Japan maritime self- defense force).

Kure city, Hiroshima was famous as Kure Naval Arsenal, one of the largest naval

base and shipyards in the imperial Japanese Navy. The battle ship YAMATO, the

biggest battle ship ever built, was constructed here.

During the World War II, the population of Kure city was more than 400,000

(Now 250,000) . In 1945, the facilities of navy base were heavily bombard by

US air forces and 70% of the city were destroyed.

In May 27th~28th,1905. the Imperial Japanese Navy completely defeated Russia's

Baltic Fleet in Sea of Japan Naval Battle (the battles of Tsushima) .   However, in 
WWII, the Navy succeeded the attack on US Navy base on Pearl harbor in December,
1941. and then six months later, defeated by US in the Battle of Midway in June,1942 .

After WWII, the navy was renamed as Maritime Self-Defense Force and have been

restricted its force. The minesweeper is the best in the World and had been active in

removing the naval mines, laid in Persian Gulf in 1991.

Cabbage

The cabbage is growing in my house.

The cabbage is rich in Vitamin C and fibers. It is a common fork in 

Japan that the Fresh cabbage juice is good for stomach and cure the 

peptic ulcers.  The pharmaceutical company sell as a stomach's drug.

The cabbage leaf is used as the German " sauerkraut "--- a little bit 

sour for me.   Korean "Kimchi or kimchee" also use the leaf.

Thin slice of cabbage leaf  is routinely with the pork cutlet in Japan.

Tsutsuji（azaleas）

Flowers of Tsutsuji (azaleas, Rhododendron) are blooming

in Tokiwa park.

Once upon a time in ------

In 1975, I graduated Yamaguchi University School of Medicine. 5 members of

our class, Tsukahara, Kanehara, Hagihara, Imaizumi and Koyama chose the
Pediatrics, Yamaguchi University School of Medicine.

Before the graduation of medical school, Tsukahara and I passed the medical
portion of ECFMG (the test of the certificate for foreign medical students who
would like training at hospital in USA), but we both failed the English portion.

After graduation, we tried again the English test but failed. However, we never
gave up to go to America.

In 1985, I had a chance to go to abroad, Brussels, Belgium. I missed the chance
of studying in USA, but Tsukahara did it; John Hopkins Medical Center for
studying genetics in 1987 and again, Montana State University in 1995.

Tsukahara wrote a lots of papers in the subjects of human genetics and human
malformation syndrome., but I choose one.------- Tsukahara M. et al. : Bartonella
henselae infection from dog. Lancet 352(9141)1682, 1998.

Cat-scratch disease is caused by a Bacteria, named Bartonella henselae, which is
transmitted by cats. He showed the first time that dogs also transmit this bacteria
to human.

After the graduation of medical school, for nearly 20 years, I had been worked
with him in the department of Pediatrics,Yamaguchi University School of Medicine.

Thukahara will forever live in my mind.

2-year-old boy. Skin rash appear in face, neck, trunk, arm and leg.

Lab. data):

|||||||| white blood cells 15,800/mm3. Eosinophil 9%.

|||||||| Allergen test for egg white (+4/6), cow milk( +4/6), ovomucoid(+3/6),

|||||||| ----------wheat(+2/6) , dogs(+3/6), cat( 0/6), mites(o/6), house dusts(0/6).

-------------------------- Left foot: He frequently have been scratched the skin

-------------------------- and worsen the dermatitis------ negative feedback.

-------------------------- 6 days after treatment.
